Unfiltered Audio's return to iOS with Battalion marks a significant milestone in drum machine development, offering an exceptionally versatile platform for sound design and rhythm creation. As one of the most sophisticated instruments of its kind across any platform, Battalion features over 20 synthesis algorithms and five sampler algorithms, all designed for intuitive yet advanced sound sculpting.

Each of the eight drum channels seamlessly integrates sampling and synthesis, providing extensive flexibility. The range of tonal shaping is further expanded by 11 filter modes and 11 distortion algorithms available per voice. Rich modulation options are accessible on every parameter within each channel, including dual LFOs and envelopes, enabling dynamic and complex sound textures.

A centralized Performance page presents a streamlined interface to control all drum channels simultaneously. This allows for quick global adjustments such as tuning all drums down an octave with a single knob or applying an overall distortion boost or filter sweep with ease, streamlining workflow during production.

Furthermore, each drum channel is equipped with two sequencers. The primary step sequencer supports intricate programming with ratcheting, probability, velocity, pitch, and micro-timing per step. Its parameters can be configured at different speeds and lengths, facilitating the creation of generative and evolving rhythmic patterns. The secondary sequencer employs Euclidean algorithms combined with a permutation engine crafted by Unfiltered Audio, both running in parallel and modifiable via a suite of Sequence Modifiers.

Parameters such as SHAPE and SHIFT enable detailed rhythmic manipulations—speeding up one pattern while slowing down another or adding swing and humanization effects—giving the user nuanced control over groove and feel. Combining per-channel SWING parameters with global Humanize settings introduces a soulful character to the rhythms that might otherwise feel sterile.

The advanced sound design capabilities are unified through a flexible mixing interface complemented by two newly developed effects: Shatter Delay and Headspace Reverb. Shatter Delay merges granular stretching, dynamic ducking, sample crushing, and feedback spectrum modulation to produce richly textured echoes, ranging from dubby dotted delays to chaotic glitch storms. Headspace Reverb builds upon Silo's established algorithms, offering additional filtering options to craft the perfect spatial ambience for your percussion tracks.

To facilitate creative exploration, Battalion ships with over 150 presets spanning diverse genres and tempos—from glitch and IDM created by sound designer DataBroth to futuristic hip-hop from Willie Green of Backwoodz Studioz.
